This collaboration made Adelphi the UK agent for SCHOTT Pharma’s high-quality glass vials and ampoules, bringing premium pharmaceutical packaging solutions to British customers. At the time, Adelphi Group employed 16 staff and had a turnover of £1.5 million.
In the early years, the focus was on introducing SCHOTT Pharma’s renowned vials made of Fiolax® Type I borosilicate glass to the UK market. Fiolax® glass was recognised for its superior chemical resistance and strength, providing a safer option for storing sensitive pharmaceutical formulations. During this period, Adelphi worked closely with SCHOTT Pharma to educate UK pharmaceutical companies on the benefits of using high-quality glass packaging.
As the demand for high-quality glass containers increased, the partnership between the two companies strengthened. Adelphi’s local expertise, combined with SCHOTT Pharma’s global innovation helped pharmaceutical manufacturers enhance the safety and efficacy of their products. By the mid-90s, SCHOTT Pharma’s glass vials had become a trusted primary packaging choice for a growing number of UK-based pharmaceutical firms. By 1995, exports of SCHOTT Pharma’s products accounted for nearly 20% of Adelphi’s sales, demonstrating the company’s growing reach moving far beyond the UK.
